Changing my oil soon, like to know what would be the right oil and grade to use for my 392 hemi. Just got the ride a few weeks ago, not sure what they have in it. Thinking of using Royal Purple 05/40 or 05/30, any info on this would be appreciated. 14,0255 mi. on engine.
I would run the recommended viscosity in your owners manual or on the fill cap. Can't go wrong with RP or Amsoil.
changed my oil w/RP 5/30w, seems to run quieter and smoother as well. Added a CAI, don't know if it's going to improve the HP or not. I guess I have to give sometime to ck on gains.
Well good luck because your motor requires 0w40 for the lifters to work correctly with the MDS lifters. If you go with a thicker oil it's not going to improve your hp.
Yeah don't put a thinner viscosity oil in it than Chrysler specified for multiple reasons. Just think of the result would be if you put engine oil in a perscision pneumatic tool. Slows it down, doesn't get proper lubrication, runs hotter, premature wear. You don't have to buy the most expensive 0-40, but use 0-40. I have many times considered installing a pre-lube pump. We know 90% of engine wear is on startup, so why hasn't it been done in auto applications. Large Diesel engines have pre-lube systems, and it's part of the startup procedures. The ship I'm on currently is computerized and will not allow the engine to turn over unless the pre-lube sequence permissive has been satisfied.
